ROCK HILL, S.C. – The All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) women’s lacrosse team is led by players from Lenoir-Rhyne University, including the league’s player of the year.
FLUECK
In selections released Thursday by the conference, goalkeeper Ines Flueck was named SAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year and Bears’ head coach Carlee Buck won SAC Coach of the Year in her second season at LRU.
LRU had three other first-team picks: junior midfielders Rachel Elmore and Ashley MacIntyre and junior attacker Gabby Sousa.
Second-team selections for the Bears were junior attacker Cathleen Gaffney, senior defender Emily Kessler and sophomore defender Madison Prkna.
LRU (8-8, 8-0) won a SAC regular-season title for the first time this season and is the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament, playing No. 4 Wingate (6-12, 4-4) in a semifinal on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Wingate.
Flueck, a 2016 NCAA Division II All-American, ranks second in the league in goals-against average (11.18) in addition to 119 saves. She is a three-time defensive player of the week this spring and the Bears’ all-time leader in saves with 577.
Sousa and Elmore rank first and second on the team in goals scored with 56 and 44, respectively. Sousa is one score away from tying the school single-season record while Elmore leads the Bears in draw controls (86) and caused turnovers (20).
MacIntyre has four goals, five assists, nine points and 31 draw controls while starting all 16 matches this season.
