NEWBERRY, S.C. – Shelby Britten scored 25 points and Newberry (S.C.) limited Lenoir-Rhyne University to 32 percent shooting on Tuesday night in a 61-54 conference victory in women’s basketball.
Britten had four 3-pointers and Meg Essex added 14 points as Newberry (4-2, 1-0) won a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) game at home.
Newberry shot 50 percent and overcame seven 3-pointers by LRU.
Junior guard Kendall Toineeta led the Bears (2-3, 0-1) with 20 points and eight rebounds and Madi Suddreth added 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Bears scored a season-low 54 points.
LRU’s next game is at home Saturday at 2 p.m. against Lees-McRae.
