WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Bears down Chowan, even record at 2-2

MURFREESBORO – Kendall Toineeta sparked Lenoir-Rhyne University’s women on Saturday as they downed Chowan 61-49 to complete a swing of four road basketball games.

The Bears (2-2) got 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block from Toineeta, a senior guard from Cherokee, as they evened their record at 2-2.

LRU’s next game is Tuesday in is home opener at 5 p.m. against South Atlantic Conference (SAC) rival Newberry, S.C.

Senior Ashley Rodriguez, freshman Hanna McClung and sophomore Olivia Nunn each scored eight points in the win over Chowan (2-2).

The Bears shot 34.4 percent and made 14 of 17 free throws. They held Chowan to 30.9 percent shooting.

LRU won the boards 43-38 and outscored Chowan 19-7 on points off turnovers.

Madi Suddreth, a senior from Taylorsville, had a six-game streak of reaching double figures (dating back to last season) halted when she scored seven points. She is averaging 14.8 points per game.
