SAC HALL OF FAME: Next class includes ex-Bears softball star O’Connor

ROCK HILL, S.C. – One of the top women’s softball pitchers in Lenoir-Rhyne University history is headed into the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Hall of Fame.

Meredith O’Connor, the league’s Pitcher of the Year in 2007 and 2008 for LRU, is among the six selections for the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019.

O’Connor, Craig Eckstein, Danyel Locklear Jolicoeur, David Jones and David Riggins will be inducted in a ceremony on May 30 at the Hall of Fame Banquet in Greenville, S.C.

O’Connor was selected third-team All-America in 2007 by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), leaving LRU with records for single-season strikeouts (327 in 2008) and career strikeouts (916).

She ranks in the top five all-time at LRU in games started, complete game, innings pitched, appearances and shutouts.

O’Connor went 63-15 with the Bears with three saves, 29 shutouts, five no-hitters and an ERA of 1.47, helping LRU win three straight SAC regular-season titles (2006-2008). The Bears also won the league tournament in 2007 and went to the NCAA Division II Regionals three times.

O’Connor, inducted into the LRU Sports Hall of Fame in 2018, now serves as a registered nurse and clinical supervisor at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte.
