COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Lenoir-Rhyne sweeps, moves to 10-0 at home this season

HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University stayed unbeaten at home this softball season on Thursday, downing Davis & Elkins 16-1 and 6-1 in non-conference games at Bears Field.

LRU improved to 17-4 overall and the Bears are 10-0 at home this season.

The Bears’ next games are also at home, a doubleheader on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Converse.

LRU is 15-1 in its last 16 games.

LRU 16, Davis & Elkins 1

Freshman third baseman Talon LaClair hit a three-run home run in the first inning and the Bears put the contest away with a 10-run second inning. She finished with four RBIs.

LRU had nine hits and was helped by eight walks and four errors by Davis & Elkins (5-5).

Junior pitcher Brandi Parks improved to 7-3 while Allie Lapallo (3-3) suffered the loss but hit a solo home run in the second inning for the Senators.

Junior outfielder Erin Boone and freshman outfielder Savannah Moorefield each hit a solo home run and senior shortstop Madison Carter drove in three runs to lead the Bears.

Junior Emily Kenley (9-1) won her ninth straight game with a complete game victory while Victoria Krystynak fell to 1-3 after taking the loss for Davis & Elkins.
