COLLEGE SOFTBALL: King snaps Lenoir-Rhyne’s win streak at 16, sweeps doubleheader

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King topped Lenoir-Rhyne University twice on Friday in softball, snapping the Bears’ win streak at 16 games.

The Tornado won the opening game 2-1 and the nightcap 4-3, leaving LRU with an overall record of 42-7.

King improved to 27-17.

The Bears, ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region, are 40-4 in their last 44 games and had not been swept since March 22, 2017 (by Wingate).

LRU next plays at the top seed in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) tournament next Saturday in Anderson, S.C., against a yet to be named opponent.

King 2, LRU 1

King’s Katie McCann delivered a walk-off, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out to win the game.

LRU sophomore designated player Mackensi Swain hit her fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning.

King’s Leslie Odom (16-4) earned a complete game victory while junior Brandi Parks fell to 19-4 after seeing her 15-game winning streak come to an end.

King 4, LRU 3

King’s Hannah Riddle broke a 3-all tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with the game-winning RBI single.

LRU senior second baseman Madison Poe had four hits and an RBI.

Rachel Farmer (5-2) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win while Bears junior Emily Kenley fell to 21-3 after taking a loss.
