AIKEN, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s softball team is headed into the weekend sizzling hot, running its win streak to 13 games on Thursday by sweeping a doubleheader at USC Aiken.
The Bears (23-4) — also winning for the 21st time in 22 games — prevailed 8-3 and 9-0.
LRU is ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II and plays Sunday at Tusculum, a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) doubleheader with a 2 p.m. start.

The Bears took control by scoring the game’s final five runs, getting a game-winning hit in the fourth inning by junior outfielder Erin Boone.
In the last 15 contests, Boone is batting .574 (27-of-47) with three home runs, 13 RBIs and has a .979 slugging percentage.
LRU had 17 hits, led by freshman outfielder Savannah Moorefield with four hits and sophomore designated player Mackensi Swain added a home run and three RBIs.
Junior Brandi Parks improved to 10-3 with a win for the Bears.
For USC Aiken, Jessica Stanley hit a three-run home run but Caroline Cockrell fell to 2-6 after taking the loss.

Moorefield and freshman first baseman Kylee Leonhardt had two-run hits while Boone hit her team-tying fourth home run of the season. Leonhardt drove in three runs as well.
Junior Emily Kenley improved to 12-1 with her 12th straight victory. She struck out six for her fourth shutout of the season while the Pacers’ Hannah Price (Seneca, S.C.) fell to 2-5 after taking a loss.
