COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Bears win 2 on Saturday, run win streak to 6 straight

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Lenoir-Rhyne University won two games on Saturday in women’s softball, extending a win streak to six games.

The Bears beat Georgia College 5-3 and host Yount Harris 4-0, improving to 10-5 overall.

LRU’s next games are Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., against Erskine, in their first home game since Feb. 16.

LRU 5, Georgia College 3

The Bears scored twice in the first inning, on a base hit by Leanna Sherrill and a bases-loaded walk to Mackensi Swain, but the game was tied at 2 after four innings.

PARKS

LRU broke a 3-all tie with two runs in the top of the seventh inning when Swain hit a home run and Kory Hammett provided a run-scoring single.

Brandi Parks picked up her sixth winning of the season for the Bears, allowing one earned run. She struck out for and allowed four hits.

Savananh Moorefield went 2-for-5 and scored twice and Erin Boone had a four-hit game, adding a runs scored and an RBI for LRU.

Georgia College dropped to 15-8.

LRU 4, Young Harris 0

Parks was dominant in the nightcap, firing a complete game four-hitter. She struck out three and tossed her second complete game shutout of the season.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth when the Bears scored four runs. Talon LaClair stroked an RBI single to right field to score Moorefield to set the stage for Swain, who hit a three-run home run to left field.

Boone added two hits in did LaClair.

Swain’s home run gives her four this season, while Parks is tied for second in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) win wins with seven.

Young Harris fell to 11-5.
