COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Bears, tied for seventh in league, at home Tuesday against Catawba

Lenoir-Rhyne University is at home Tuesday for a conference women’s softball doubleheader against Catawba, going into the games under .500 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).

The Bears 16-9 overall, are 1-2 in the conference after splitting a doubleheader at Anderson, S.C., on Saturday.

LRU is tied for seventh place – with Coker – and Wingate (5-1) is a game up on Lincoln Memorial, Queens and Catawba (all 4-2).

The Bears won the first game on Saturday 4-2, evening its league record at 1-1, but the Trojans won 9-1 in the second game.

Anderson 9, LRU 1 (Saturday)

The Bears had only three hits and their only run scored on a throwing error.

Savannah Moorfield, Mackensi Swain and Leanna Sherrill each had a hit for LRU.

Emily Kenley took a loss for the Bears, going 1 2/3 innings. She gave up five runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks. Hannah Jennings and Brandi Parks pitched in relief.

First baseman Joshlyn Martin led the Trojans, going 4-for-4 and driving in four runs, and designated hitter Kayson Boatner was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Kenley (3-3) pitched for the first time since she was injured on Feb. 26 against Belmont Abbey.

The Bears are 6-2 on the road this season.

PARKS

LRU 4, Anderson 2 (Saturday)

Parks no-hit the Trojans for five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) over seven innings. She gave up only two hits, improving to 12-5.

The Bears jumped to a 2-0 lead in the third inning via an RBI single from Talon LaClair and a second run that scored on an error.

Kyle Leonhardt hit a solo home run – her second of the year – in the sixth inning for LRU, and Kory Hammett delivered a pinch-hit RBI.

Parks got the Trojans in order in the seventh inning after they had two hits and scored two runs in the sixth inning.

LRU finished with seven hits.
