COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Bears go on the road, sweep doubleheader at Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. – A sweep of Erskine on the road on Wednesday left Lenoir-Rhyne University at three games above .500 heading into games at home over the weekend.

The Bears nipped Erskine 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader and then won 5-1.

LRU (6-3) plays at home Saturday against Barton at noon and against King at 2 p.m.

LRU 2, Erskine 1

The Bears scored a run in the sixth and another in the seventh for a 2-0 lead en route to a victory.

LRU shortstop Madison Carter had an RBI and pinch-hitter Emily Kenley drove in a run to lead the way.

Brandi Parks (3-2) pitched a complete game to pick up a win. She gave up one run, walked two and struck out five.

Each team had four hits.

LRU 5, Erskine 1

Mackenzie Cates hit her first home run of the season and Kenley threw a complete game to gain her third pitching win for the Bears.

LRU had nine hits, including two by Carter and an RBI and two by Kylee Leonhardt.

The Bears scored twice in the first inning and single runs in the third, sixth and seventh innings.

Kenley threw a complete game, giving up six hits and one run. She walked none and struck out eight.
