MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Young Harris beats Bears, remains undefeated (8-0)

HICKORY – Young Harris remained unbeaten in men’s soccer on Wednesday night, downing host Lenoir-Rhyne University 2-1 in a match that had its start delayed by rain.

In a rematch of an NCAA Division I playoff match last year, the Mountain Lions again won (8-0) to remain undefeated.

LRU dropped to 3-3 overall.

Carlos Gomez scored both goals for Young Harris and Victor Cascon scored for LRU off an assist by Goncalo Gracia.

Gomez’s first goal came in the 24th minutes, his sixth of the season, and his game-winner game in the 55th minute.

The Bears had an 11-9 advantage in shots but Young Harris led in shots on goal 4-3. Both teams have two saves, three corner kicks and 10 fouls, and Young Harris received one yellow card.

LRU dropped to 1-1 in Moretz Stadium this season.

The Bears’ next match is Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Hickory against South Atlantic Conference (SAC) rival Wingate.
