HICKORY – The final regular-season home match of the season comes Wednesday night for Lenoir-Rhyne University in men’s soccer with the Bears chasing their 10th victory of the season.
Shaw University visits LRU for an 8:30 p.m. start at Moretz Stadium.
The Bears won their most recent match on Saturday at Belmont Abbey, 3-0, after outshooting the Crusaders 33-1.
LRU had 17 first-half shots and 16 in the second half.
Victor Cascon scored his 10th goal of the season for the Bears while Ignacio de Goya had the game-winner in the seventh minute and Goncalo Garcia scored in the 73rd minute for his fifth goal of the year.
LRU led 16-0 on corner kicks, and Alexander Langer had one save for the Bears.
LRU, 9-4 overall, improved to 4-3 in road matches.
Belmont Abbey came in at 5-1-3 and third place in Conference Carolinas.
LRU goes to Anderson (S.C.) on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. match that closes the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) regular season.
The SAC tournament is scheduled Oct, 30 with first-round matches at the higher seeds and the semifinals and finals, respectively, set for Nov. 2 and Nov. 4 at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C.
