NEWBERRY, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s men go into a rematch of an NCAA playoff match on Wednesday fresh off a conference victory over Newberry, S.C.

The Bears, 3-2 overall, face Young Harris (7-0) – ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II, at LRU on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Young Harris defeated LRU 2-0 in last season’s national playoffs.

LRU beat Newberry on the road on Saturday 5-2, posting their first five goal match under head coach Jack Winter and scoring five goals for the first time since Oct. 2012 against Montreat.

The Bears are 2-1 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) and Newberry dropped to 3-4-1 overall and 2-1 in the league.

Victor Cascon scored twice for LRU, which moved into third place in the SAC behind Queens and Wingate.

Florian Simon opened the scoring for the Bears, who blew the match open with three goals in a span of 14 minutes, 40 seconds.

LRU had a 19-6 edge in shots and 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Goncalo Garcia had one goal, his third of the season, and one assist for the Bears.

LRU has won three straight over Newberry and is 18-4-1 all-time in the series.
