MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Queens erases 3-goal deficit, nips Lenoir-Rhyne in OT

CHARLOTTE – Queens University wiped out a three-goal lead, forced overtime and then nipped visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University 12-11 on Wednesday night in men’s lacrosse.

Queens, ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division II, trailed 10-7 late in the third quarter but rallied for a tie with a goal with 13 seconds left in regulation.

A goal by Jesse Oliver with two minutes, seven seconds left in overtime provided the Royals (71, 2-0) a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) win.

LRU dropped to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the SAC.

The Bears’ Joe Buduo scored a season-high four goals, moving him to third all-time in scoring with 114 career goals. He added an assist on a ground ball and also caused a turnover.

Eric Dickinson, fourth on the all-time scoring list with 111 goals, had a hat trick and scored all of those goals in the opening half.

Ben Austin scored twice and had an assist for RU while Connor Stanley caused five turnovers and grabbed six ground balls with Weston Bimstefer also grabbing six.

Queens scored five of the final six goals to win. Taking advantage of an LRU turnover, Reed Murphy forced overtime with a goal in the closing seconds. The game winner was slowed by LRU goalie Noah Johnson but eventually trickled past the goal line to give Queens a win.

The Royals had a 49-35 advantage in shots and a 33-31 edge in ground balls.

Quinn Tallant had three goals and Murphy and Oliver each scored twice and added an assist for Queens.

Queens now has a 7-6 series edge against the Bears after LRU had won six of the previous seven battles.

Johnson made 12 saves in the loss.

The Bear’ next match is Saturday, a 3 p.m. battle on the road against Newberry S.C.
