MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Buduo breaks own scoring record as Bears pummel Queens

HICKORY – Joe Buduo bumped his own scoring record on Wednesday night when he led Lenoir-Rhyne University’s men past visiting Queens 24-8 in men’s lacrosse.

Buduo, a junior attacker from Shrewsbury, Mass., scored eight goals to break his own school record for a single match as the Bears improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).

He had set the goals record and one for total points just four days before. He had 10 total points against Queens.

Senior midfielder Ben Corrigan added three goals and four assists as the Bears won their 19th straight conference regular-season match and moved to 32-4 in matches dating back to 2016.

LRU led 14-3 by halftime and ended up with a 56-39 edge in shots taken and had 36 ground balls to Queen’s 25.

Senior goalkeeper Ryan Crompton earned a win in goal, stopping 12 shots.

The Royals’ Justin Swick scored three goals and Anthony Valenza suffered a loss despite stopping 11 shots.

LRU had 13 players score in the victory, which extended its win streak to five matches.

The Bears, ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II, are at home Saturday at 2 p.m. for an SAC match against Newberry, S.C.
