ROCK HILL, S.C. – The first top defender award of the season in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) men’s lacrosse was won Monday by Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Ryan Crompton.

Crompton, a senior from Fredrick, Md., allowed just three goals in one half and had four saves as the Bears opened the season last Saturday by beating Young Harris 18-7 in Hickory.

Crompton was a preseason All-SAC selection by the conference’s head coaches. He ranks second in school history in saves (304) and goals-against average (9.49).

The Bears, ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division II, play top-ranked Limestone in their next match Saturday at noon in Gaffney, S.C.

Limestone has won three national titles, 2014, 2015 and last season.
