COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Lenoir-Rhyne’s Dugger wins league special teams award

ROCK HILL, S.C. – A punt return for a touchdown helped Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Kyle Dugger win this week’s South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Player of the Week Award for special teams.

Dugger, a sophomore safety from Fayetteville, Ga., returned a punt 38 yards for a score last Saturday in the Bears’ league battle at home with Carson-Newman.

The Eagles downed LRU 42-28 despite Dugger’s game-high 18 tackles. He also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble, and he leads the Bears in takedowns (79), passes broken up (five) and forced fumbles (two) this season.

During his college career, Dugger has scored on a punt return, a blocked punt return, a fumble return and a blocked field goal return.

Dugger also won LRU’s Ronnie Lott Heavy Hitter award for the Carson-Newman game, winning the honor for the second time this season.

LRU (3-6, 2-4) closes its season Saturday at Catawba (8-2, 4-2) in an SAC game that begins at 1:30 p.m. in Salisbury.
