HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s 100th season of football will begin at home on Sept. 7 against St. Augustine’s.

CRONIC

The start of head coach Drew Cronic’s tenure at LRU will have a 6 p.m. kickoff in Moretz Stadium and opens a season-long celebration of 100 years of Bears football.

The school announced the 11-game schedule on Thursday. It has six home games and game times are set for six games overall and the other five — all road games — are to be announced.

Cronic, who won the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coach of the Year award after guiding the Bears to a 12-2 record, led LRU to a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) title in his first season in Hickory.

The Bears were unbeaten (7-0) in the SAC and then defeated Florida Tech and Wingate to get to the NCAA Southeast Regional final, where they fell to Valdosta (Ga.) State.

After the 2019 opener, LRU goes to Virgina Union before playing Newberry (S.C.) to open league play on Sept. 21.

Homecoming is Oct. 5 against Virginia Wise at 2 p.m. and Senior Day is Nov. 9 against UNC Pembroke.

More events surrounding the 100 years of football celebration will be announced at www.lrbears.com.
