SAC BASEBALL: No. 8 Anderson wins 16-2, eliminates No. 5 Lenoir-Rhyne

KODAK, Tenn. – Lenoir-Rhyne University lasted one day in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) tournament.

Eighth-seeded Anderson (S.C.) jumped on the fifth-seeded Bears for five first-inning runs and rolled to a 16-2 victory to advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament at Smokies Stadium.

Anderson (23-27) faces top-seeded Catawba (27-21) on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

LRU ends its season at 27-22, posting a winning record for the third time in the last four seasons.

A three-run home run by Jackson Strange in the first inning got Anderson out front. Brandon Odachowski also had a home run for the Trojans, who had 15 hits and had a seven-run seventh inning.

Will Gee (5-6) gained a win for Anderson, allowing one run over seven innings.

Sophomore John Grigg took the loss for LRU, falling to 8-3, and senior third baseman Tripp Hamrick and junior pinch-hitter Hunter Jackson each drove in a run for the Bears.

LRU’s pitching staff cleared 400 strikeouts for the third time in four seasons with 405 this season.
