MAIDEN – Maiden High’s boys won the South Fork 2A tennis tournament championship on Thursday on their own courts.
The Blue Devils finished with 9 ½ points to edge second-place East Lincoln.
Brann Reid of Newton-Conover won the singles title, beating Maiden’s Luke Laney 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles, Joel Reiter and Nick Colannino of East Lincoln edged Maiden’s Jake Dalton and Afton McRee 6-4, 6-4 for a title.
Five singles players advance to the West 2A Regionals on May 4-5: Reid, Laney, Kyle Fitzsimmons of Lake Norman Charter, Chase Hines of East Lincoln and Maiden’s Patrick Lichtenwalner.
Advancing to the regional in doubles are: Reiter and Collaninno, Dalton and McRee, Lake Norman Charter’s Drew Palasick and Tre Thorne, Grayson Welch and Ben Hinshaw of Newton-Conover and Bandys’ Sam Owensby and Grant Wagner.
