HICKORY – Corbin Watson’s hit up the middle with one out in the ninth inning delivered a 9-8 walk-off baseball victory over Erskine on Tuesday night for Lenoir-Rhyne University.
The Bears gained their 25th win of the season (25-16) when Watson, a sophomore shortstop from Eden, drove in pinch-runner Grant Fuller.
Erskine dropped to 23-17 in the loss.
Three Bears – Watson, senior outfielder Marcus Shoemaker, senior third baseman Tripp Hamrick – each had two RBIs for LRU.
Landon Whitson, a senior from Marion, picked up a win (he’s 3-1) by retiring the final five batters.
Drew Yniesta hit a bases-clearing triple and drove in four runs for the Fleet, who rallied to gain at tie at 8 after trailing 6-1.
Erskine’s Grayson King fell to 3-3 after taking a setback.
LRU next plays on Friday, facing Carson-Newman in a 2 p.m. South Atlantic Conference (SAC) game in Jefferson City, Tenn.
