Timely hitting and strong pitching again led Bandys High to a baseball victory on Wednesday night, 4-2 over visiting East Burke to extend the Trojans’ win streak to seven games.

Alex Reavis (2-0) allowed three hits over five innings to gain a win, and Cy Spencer pitched the last two innings to gain a save as Bandys improved to 15-1 overall.

Travis Russell sparked the Trojans with two of their eight hits.

Bandys, which shares the South Fork 2A lead with North Lincoln at 8-1, goes for its eighth straight win on Friday at home (7 p.m.), facing Lincolnton.

The Trojans have matched their longest win streak since 2011 — when they won seven straight – but have a ways to go to approach one of their hottest starts – 13-0 in 2005 when they went 19-4 under head coach Doug McRee.

Current Bandys head coach Frank Porter picked up his 94th career win, sparked by the Trojans scoring early.

Bandys scored a run in the first inning and one in the second to jump ahead of East Burke (6-10), and then added to that in the third inning.

After Andrew Patrick had a leadoff single and there were two walks, Alex Borst drove in two runs with a single.

The Cavs used a hit and two walks in the fourth inning to get within 4-2, one run scoring on a hit by Ben Burns and the other scoring on an outfield throwing error.

Reavis went five innings, giving up two runs (one earned), walking four and striking out two.

Ayden Lail took the loss for East Burke. He pitched two innings, allowing five hits, three runs (two earned) with two walks and no strikeouts.

East Burke’s next game is Tuesday, a Northwestern Foothills 2A matchup in Icard with West Iredell at 6:30 p.m.

Lake Norman 4, Alexander Central 1

Justin Jarvis limited the visiting Cougars to two hits and struck out eight as the Wildcats won a non-conference game.

Jarvis gave up an unearned run and got just enough support – two runs in the second inning and two in the sixth inning – to win.

Vance Anderson and Scott Diekman each had two hits for Lake Norman.

Leadoff hitter Byron Younts had the only two hits for Alexander Central, which lost its third straight game.

Zach Hammer threw 5 1/3 innings for the Cougars, allowing four hits, four runs (three earned) with five walks and 11 strikeouts.

Alexander Central is at home Friday at 6 p.m to battle West Caldwell in a Northwestern 3A-4A game.

SOFTBALL

Newton-Conover 12, Statesville 0, 5 inn.

Destini Vines drove in three runs and Maddie Carpenter allowed only one hit and had three hits to lead the Red Devils past the Greyhounds in a non-conference game in Newton.

Carpenter struck out six and, batting leadoff in the Newton-Conover order, went 3-for-4 and drove in a run.

Vines had three hits and Emilie Murphy and Kayla Hollar each added two hits for the Red Devils, who led 2-0 after one inning, 7-0 after two innings and then added five runs in the fourth inning.

Statesville made nine errors and its only hit came from Jada Brown.

Losing pitcher Meredythe Galliher allowed 10 hits, 12 runs (two earned), walked one and struck out three.

Newton-Conover, 4-5 in the South Fork 2A and tied for fourth place with West Lincoln, meets the Rebels on Friday in Newton at 5:30 p.m.
