COLLEGE BASEBALL: Limestone wipes out 9-run deficit, tops Lenoir-Rhyne

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Limestone College wiped out a nine-run deficit on Tuesday and dealt visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University a 12-11 baseball loss in 10 innings despite two home runs by the Bears’ Alex Reynolds.

Reynolds hit a solo home run and a grand slam, driving in five runs, as the Bears (26-19) built an 11-2 lead by the fifth inning. Junior designated hitter Matthew Freeman hit a two-run home run for LRU as it took early control.

Limestone (19-25) scored the game’s final 10 runs, including seven in the seventh inning, and won on Chase Allen’s RBI single with one out in the 10th inning.

Junior Griffin Templeton took the loss for the Bears.

For Limestone, John Staab and Kyle Strovink hit home runs while Michael Todd Harris pitched three scoreless innings to earn a victory and improve to 2-2.

LRU pitchers struck out 11, increasing their South Atlantic Conference (SAC) lead in that category to 381.

The Bears next play Friday at home, a conference game against Coker that begins at 6 p.m. at Bears Field.
