HICKORY — Lenoir-Rhyne University’s new head baseball coach said he has a long range plan for the program but described himself as not being patient — he wants to win as soon as his first season with the Bears.

Chris Ramirez was officially introduced on Thursday afternoon on campus.

He is coming to LRU from the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS), where he was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II National Coach of the Year in 2018.

He becomes the 20th head coach in LRU baseball history.

Rameriz replaces Tom Fleenor, who was placed on paid administrative leave and later fired for undisclosed reasons.
