COLLEGE BASEBALL: Bears have 23 wins as they prep to play Lincoln Memorial next

Lenoir-Rhyne University has already won more games (23) than it did a year ago as it heads into a Friday home game against Lincoln Memorial.

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University has surpassed its win total of last season and has its eyes on next reaching 25 wins.

The Bears nipped Lander, S.C., on the road 9-8 on Tuesday — with sophomore Corbin Watson driving in four runs — to improve to 23-14.

LRU won 22 games a year ago.

Next up for the Bears is South Atlantic Conference (SAC) game on Friday at 6 p.m. at home against Lincoln Memorial.

LRU jumped ahead of Lander 5-0, helped by a two-run home run in the fifth inning by senior outfielder Marcus Shoemaker.

Watson added a bases-clearing triple in the eighth inning for the Bears, who won despite being outhit 13-7.

Junior Jake Conroy improved to 3-0 after pitching five scoreless innings and striking out five while senior Patrick Laganke registered the final three outs for his first save of the year.
