HICKORY – As the baseball season approaches, two Lenoir-Rhyne University players, a pitcher and an outfielder, are highlighted by The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

John Grigg, a junior pitcher from Lawndale, was chosen as a Southeast Region Player to Watch while E.J. Ranel, an outfielder from Lawrenceville, Ga., who transferred to LRU from Chattahoochie Valley Community College, is the publication’s Southeast Region Newcomer To Watch.

Grigg, a right-hander, led the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) in wins last season and was third in ERA in the conference. He was named to the league’s Gold Glove team.

Ranel is part of a Bears recruiting class ranked No. 4 in the nation by Perfect Game. He led Chattahoochie by hitting .438 with 20 home runs and 70 RBIs in 47 games last season.

LRU begins the 2019 baseball season on Feb. 1, playing a three-game series at Rollins College.
