WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Lenoir-Rhyne shuts out USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. – Six players scored a goal each Saturday and Hannah Van Eerden had two assists as visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University blanked USC Aiken 6-0 in women’s soccer.

The Bears (2-0) scored three goals in each half and outshot USC Aiken 17-6.

The scoring opened at the 15:35 mark when Aqsa Mushtaq took a pass from the left side by Van Eerden and hit a shot from 3 yards away.

About 15 minutes later, Sarah Pullman made it 2-0- when she scored unassisted.

The third goal of the first half was scored by Van Eerden with an assist by Stephanie Figueiredo.

At the 56:42 mark, Abigael McGarel scored via an assist by Christina Shimshock.

It was 5-0 after Abbie Brown’s goal at the 63:56 mark, assisted by Van Eerden.

Figueiredo closed the scoring at the 84:53 mark on an assist by Madi Kyle.

Bears goalie Loren Sterling made three saves and Karin Cadwalader had six for USC Aiken.

LRU is at home to face Mount Olive on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
