COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Bears go 2-2 in Florida, play home opener Saturday

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – In the same results as they got a day before, Lenoir-Rhyne University’s women won once and lost once on Saturday.

Host school Nova Southeastern beat the Bears 3-0 in the Shark Invitational before LRU rebounded to down Saint Anselm 3-0.

LRU, 2-2, next plays on Saturday in its home opener against Lees-McRae at 2 p.m. in Shuford Gym.

Denvyr Tyler-Palmer had a match-high 19 kills to lead the Sharks in the opening match. Nicole Rivera added a double-double (23 assists and 12 digs) as Nova Southeastern won 25-15, 25-1`5, 25-20.

Senior outside hitter Brooke Redmond led the Bears with 12 kills and freshman setter Maggie Bogart and sophomore defensive specialist Anna Smith added 15 and 13 assists, respectively.

Redmond and freshman outside hitter Taylor Prall sparked the Bears’ 25-21, 25-23, 25-18 victory over Saint Anselm. The both had 12 kills.

Bogard and Smith combined for 29 assists, and the Bears had eight aces and eight blocks.

The Hawks’ Catherine McCarthy finished with 12 kills and Jewel Hays added 25 assists and eight digs in the loss.
