WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Lenoir-Rhyne beats Coker, collects ninth victory

HICKORY – Two players came off the bench to score goals on Wednesday night that led the Lenoir-Rhyne University women to 2-0 home soccer victory over Coker.

Freshman Stephanie Figueiredo and sophomore Aqsa Mushtaq each scored for the third time this season as the Bears won a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) match.

LRU improved to 9-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the league and Coker dropped to 2-9-1, 1-7.

Bears senior midfielder Elizabeth Dula made her first start of the season and had an assist on a free kick on Figueiredo’s goal at the 34:41 mark of the first half.

LRU goalkeeper Alayna Morris had two saves and posted her fifth shutout of the season while Shelby Middleton had nine saves for Coker.

The victory assures the Bears have their 10th straight winning season.

LRU goes on the road Saturday for an SAC match at 5 p.m. against Wingate.
