MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Lenoir-Rhyne shuts out Coker, goes to 6-0-2 at home

HICKORY – Scoring all of their goals in the opening half, the Lenoir-Rhyne University men topped visiting Coker 4-0 in a conference soccer match on Wednesday night.

Senior Chris Pitharas, freshman Victor Cascon, junior Ruben Morillas and junior Florian Simon – all players from foreign countries – each scored once for the Bears (8-2-3, 4-2-2 South Atlantic Conference) at Moretz Stadium.

Pitharas is from England, Cascon and Morillas are from Spain and Simon is from Germany.

LRU outshot Coker (2-8-1, 1-6-1) by a 24-8 margin while Bears goalkeeper Zach King registered his sixth shutout of the season and lowered his goals-against average to 0.72.

The Bears, running their win streak to three, are 6-0-2 at home this season and they are ranked No. 7 in the first NCAA Division II All-Southeast Regional poll.

LRU plays again on Saturday, playing a league match at 7:30 p.m. at Wingate.
