WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Bears nip St. Leo to gain third straight victory

HICKORY – Two first-half goals were enough on Tuesday for Lenoir-Rhyne University’s women’s soccer team to beat visiting St. Leo 2-1 and win for the third straight match.

Madi Kyle and Claire Neibergall each scored for the Bears (8-3-1), who got two saves from goalkeeper Alayna Morris. Kyle’s goal was her second of the season.

Megan Charlton had six saves as St. Leo fell to 3-6.

The Bears outshot the Lions 13-11 and eight of those shots were on goal.

Sophia Kenny scored the St. Leo goal in the 72nd minutes.

LRU improved to 6-1 in Mortez Stadium this season.

The Bears’ next match is Saturday at UNC Pembroke with a 5 p.m. start.
