INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the first time in 15 years, Lenoir-Rhyne University’s women’s golf team is headed to the three-day NCAA Division II South Super Regionals.

The tournament begins Mondday at the Germantown Country Club in Germantown, Tenn., and the Bears are one of 12 teams in the field.

LRU has won four tournaments – the Patsy Rendleman Invitational (Oct. 8-9), Lincoln Memorial Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate (Feb. 26-27), Wingate Intercollegiate Challenge (March 19-20), and Sunoco Campbell Oil Classic (March 26-27) – in addition to several individual victories this season.

LRU junior Abbey Hartsell, who played high school golf at Alexander Central, won Lincoln Memorial’s Tournament while sophomore Ainee O’Connor from Kent, United Kingdom, finished first at Wingate’s annual spring tournament before falling in a playoff a week later at UNC Pembroke’s tournament.

Hartsell and O’Connor were All-South Atlantic Conference honorees while Hartsell was the league player of the year and an NCAA Division II All-American last spring in addition to individually qualifying for the regionals.

All participants will compete through the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the championships.

The year’s finals are at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston from May 16-19.

Barry is the defending national champion in NCAA Division II.
