GERMANTOWN, Tenn. – Led by a 15th place finish by junior Abbey Hartsell, the Lenoir-Rhyne University women finished ninth as the NCAA Division II South Super Regional golf tournament closed on Wednesday as the Germantown Country Club.
Hartsell, a golfing star at Alexander Central High, finished with a 12-over par 228 over 54 holes.
The Bears closed at 74-over par 938 on a par-72, 5,966-yard course, three strokes behind eighth-place Florida Tech.
Barry, ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II and the defending national champion, won the team title at 37-over par 901.
LRU sophomore Ainee O’Connor for 21st, carding a 15-over par 231.
Barry’s Tilda Larsson was the overall regional champion with a 7-under par 209, eight shots clear of the runner-up (West Florida’s Paloma Vaccaro).
The Bears made their first postseason appearance as a team since 2003.
