FLORENCE, S.C. – Ignacio de Goya had one of Lenoir-Rhyne University’s goals on Saturday night – his 10th of the season – as the visiting Bears edged Frances Marion 2-1 in men’s soccer.

Marc Fernandez, who like de Goya is a native of Spain, scored the other LRU goal to help LRU improve to 7-2-3 with a non-conference victory.

Frances Marion fell to 6-6.

LRU goalkeeper Zach King had three saves while Raul Gullamon, also from Spain, finished with four saves for Frances Marion.

The Bears outshot the Patriots 17-7.

Frances Marion had an early 1-0 lead when forward Oliver Drakenhammar finished off a shot at the 19:29 mark of the first half. Fernandez scored his first goal of the year for the Bears 55 seconds later.

The Bears are 4-0-1 in non-league matches this season.

LRU next plays on Wednesday night at home at 7:30 p.m., facing Coker in a South Atlantic Conference match.
