HICKORY – The 30th annual golf tournament honoring a Lenoir-Rhyne University athletic legend is scheduled in October at Lake Hickory Country Club.
The Bears Club and partnering sponsor Commscope announced plans on Monday for the 30th Annual Lenoir-Rhyne Hanley H. Painter Memorial Golf Tournament at LHCC’s Catawba Springs.

The LRU press release said the tournament is Oct. 12 (a Friday) as part Homecoming weekend at LRU.
Tee times are 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., leading up to a gala from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Moretz Mills.
The tournament honors the late Painter, both a head football coach and athletic director at LRU during his long career. It helps generate scholarship aid for all 22 of the Bears’ athletic programs.
In coordination with the Bears Club, the tournament has set an annual purpose of enhancing LRU’s rich athletic goal of providing two full scholarships.
Awards will be presented to members of the winning flights and corporate team winners, and there will be awards for closest to the pin and longest drive.
The entry fee is $125 and includes lunch.

Bears Club Gala scheduled
The Bears Club Gala, which also raises scholarship dollars for LRU student-athletes, is also scheduled on Oct. 17.
There will be a silent and live auction at the event, which has live entertainment.
