COLLEGE WOMEN’S TRACK: Lenoir-Rhyne has 8 on women’s All-Southeast Region team

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s track and field program has produced eight female athletes selected to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Southeast Region team for NCAA Division II.

The Bears’ 1,600-meter relay – which established a new school mark this year (three minutes, 56.01 seconds) and was first at the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Championships – earned a spot on the all-region team. The squad includes freshman Saidah Hardwick juniors Dakota Alston and Paiton Fair and senior Keyua McElveen.

Fair and Hardwick also earned all-region accolades in the 400-meter dash.  Fair is the league champion in the event while Hardwick has the school mark (57.86).  In addition, McElveen was named to the All-Southeast Region Team in the 200-meter dash (school-record 25.84).

The Bears also had several all-region performers in the field events:  freshman Montana McElroy in the high jump, sophomore Autumn Drayton in the shot put, junior Savannah Drummonds in the pole vault and senior Haylea Salamon in the shot put and weight throw.

McElroy established a new school record in the high jump (5-3) while Drayton was runner-up in the shot put (a school-record 41-0) at the SAC Championships.  In addition, Salamon ranks second on the school’s all-time lists for both shot put (40-10) and weight throw (51-0) and Drummonds holds the program mark in the pole vault (11-0).

Salamon, Fair and Drayton all earned all-region accolades for the second straight year.

LRU’s outdoor season for women begins March 16-17 in the 49er Classic in Charlotte.
