COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Lenoir-Rhyne sweeps Catawba, now 2-0 in league play

HICKORY – With a sweep of visiting Catawba on Tuesday night – 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 – Lenoir-Rhyne University ran its win streak in women’s volleyball to four.

The Bears improved to 5-2 overall by winning and 2-0 in the South Atlantic Conference. They’ve won both of their league matches by three-set sweeps.

Freshman outside hitter Taylor Prall of Tipp City, Ohio, led the win over Catawba with a match-best 12 kills while senior outside hitter Brooke Redmond of Statesville added 10 kills and eight digs in the win.

Catawba, which hit just .090, was led by Micah Ensor and Kimberly Hurtado, each with seven kills.

LRU sophomore defensive specialist Anna Smith of Statesville added a match-high 22 assists as the Bears totaled five service aces and six blocks.

The Bears and Wingate are the only unbeaten teams in SAC play.

LRU returns to SAC play on Friday at 7 p.m. on the road against Carson-Newman.
