HICKORY – Megan Treadway, a team MVP and all-conference volleyball player last season at Draughn High, is among six players signed by Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Bears head coach Dave Markland has announced a recruiting class that includes Treadway, Madison Asher, Maggie Bogart, Angelica Hernandez, Taylor Prall and Taylor Walton.

Treadway led Draughn (18-4) to the state 2A playoffs last season after the Wildcats went 14-2 in the South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A and finished second behind Kings Mountain. She had 209 digs and 262 kills, and Draughn grabbed the top 2A postseason spot in the SMAC 2A-3A, beating Trinity 3-0 in the opening round before falling 3-1 to Providence Grove.

Treadway also played club volleyball for BEVC Kryptonite, a team coach by former LRU player and assistant coach Meredith Lutz and current Bears player Kathyrn Sizemore.

“I’m very excited about this class,” Markland said in a press release. “This group fills a variety of needs and every position is covered…”

Asher, from Abingdon, Va., High, made all-league and all-region three times and was her team’s VMP. She is her school’s all-time leader in kills and made a Virginia High School League all-star team.

Bogart is from Shawnee, Kan., and was twice on an all-state academic team there.

Named the most outstanding player for Colegio Espiritu Santo in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Hernandez played club volleyball for three teams there.

Playing for Tippecanoe High in Tripp, City, Ohio, Pratt won all-league honors twice and all-district honors twice. She led her team to a district title in 2015. She’s also an all-conference pick in girls’ basketball and girls’ track and field.

Walton was an all-league and team MVP for Davie County High.

The Bears open their season Sept. 1, facing St. Leo at 11:30 a.m. and then American International at 4:30 p.m. in the Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
