COLLEGE TRACK AND FIELD: Bears’ Lotharp sets school mark in 60-meter dash

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s P.J. Lotharp set a school record in the 60-meter dash for the second straight day on Saturday, finishing second in the event at the East Tennessee State University Invitational.

Lotharp was second in 60-meter dash in 6.78 seconds at the Mountain States Health Alliance Athletics Center. He has already qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division II Championships.

LRU senior Myles Braswell-Sample finished second in the men’s shot put by throwing a school record 50 feet, 10 inches.

The LRU men (3:23.61) and women (4:01.37) set new school marks in the 1,600-meter relays.

The men’s team consisted of Marquez Gray, Denzel Gilmore, Josh Adkins and Petar Ivackovic. The women’s team is Keyua McElveen, Paiton Fair, Dakota Alston and Saidah Hardwick.

McElveen bested her own mark in the women’s 200-meter dash with a 25.57 in the finals, while senior Haylea Salamon was fourth in the women’s shot put, establishing a new school record (40-10).

LRU’s indoor teams return to action on Saturday and Sunday in the Wake Forest Invitational and the Appalachian Indoor Open.
