COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Lenoir-Rhyne sweeps, has won 13 of last 14 games

FLORENCE, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University won twice – and for the 13th time in 14 games – in women’s softball, beating Francis Marion 5-1 and 8-2 on Saturday on the road.

The Bears, ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II, improved to 15-4 and dropped Francis Marion to 9-9.

Brandi Parks and Emily Kenley each pitched a complete game for LRU.

The next game for LRU comes Thursday with a 2 p.m. start for a home doubleheader against Davis & Elkins.

Junior outfielder Erin Boone hit a bases-clearing triple as part of a four-run second inning to spark the offense while Parks improved to 6-3 after picking up the complete game win.

Francis Marion’s Jennie Polak drove in a run while Sydney Holland fell to 5-4 after taking the loss.

LRU 8, Francis Marion 2

The Bears put the game away early with a six-run first inning.

LRU was led by sophomore designated player Mackensi Swain and freshman third baseman Talon LaClair with two hits and two RBIs each.

Kenley improved to 8-1 after going the distance for the Bears.

Jessica Harney hit a solo home run while Reece Davis, who played high school softball at East Burke, fell to 4-4 by taking the loss.
