BOONE – It was a big day for Lenoir-Rhyne University in indoor track and field on Saturday.

LRU’s men finished second and the Bears’ women were third as the Appalachian Open ended at the Holmes Convocation Center.

The LRU men had 72 points to finish behind Appalachian State (119) while the LRU women scored 65 points, finishing behind Appalachian State (119) and College of Charleston.

In the women’s meet, LRU junior Paiton Fair broke her own school record in the 800-meter dash with a time of two minutes, 23.85 seconds to finish second. Fair was also part of the Bears’ 1,200-meter relay team that won with a school-record 2:49.61. Fair ran with freshman Saidah Hardwick, junior Dakota Alston and senior Keyua McElveen.
