POSTON

ERIN, Wisc. – Former Hickory High golfer J.T. Poston shot an even par 72 in the second round of the U.S. Open on Friday but isn’t expected to make the cut with a two-day total of 6-over par 150.

With players still on the course on Friday, Poston was tied for 115th and the projected cut was at 1-over par.

Poston battled back with two birdies – at No. 13 and No. 15 at Erin Hill – to gain an even par round. He had bogeys on No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 10, bringing his total of bogeys in two rounds at the Open to 20. He also had a double bogey.

A star college golfer at Western Carolina, Poston is a PGA Tour rookie. His birdies on Friday gave him six in the tournament.

If the projected cut at 145 holds, he will miss the cut for only the fifth time in 20 career tournaments at golf’s highest level.
