PGA TOUR: Poston starts well, fires 68 in third round in Alabama

OPELIKA, Ala. – J.T. Poston birdied hole No. 1 and added three others in his third round on Saturday at the Barbasol Championship, matching his round of 68 from Thursday.

Poston, after making the cut for the 17th time in 25 PGA Tour rookie events, moved up on the leaderboard heading into Sunday’s final round.

He is at 68-72-68—208 and 5-under par and shares 55th with five other golfers.

A former star in high school golf at Hickory who blossomed while playing college golf at Western Carolina, Poston is 14 strokes off the lead in Alabama.

Scott Stallings of Worchester, Mass., carded an 11-under par 60 on Saturday that has him at 69-65-60—194 and in the lead. Grayson Murray of Raleigh is one stroke behind Stallings.

Poston’s other birdies in the third round were at No. 10 and back-to-back at No. 14 and No. 15. His lone bogey of the round came at No. 10.

He has 13 birdies through three rounds, and his average score on the PGA Tour as a rookie is 71.061.
