RENO, Nev. – Hickory’s J.T. Poston had three bogeys on Sunday and ended up tied for 59th in the Barracuda Championship at the Montreux Golf and Country Club.
Poston closed the tournament with a 1-over par 73 after he bogeyed holes No. 7, 12 and 17. He shot a 70 that included an eagle at No. 8 in Saturday’s second round (he scored par on all the other holes).
For the tournament, he had 14 birdies, 48 pars, seven bogeys and two double bogeys as he finished his 26th event as a PGA Tour rookie by making the cut for the 19th time.
A former Hickory High and Western Carolina golf star, Poston is approaching $650,000 in earnings in his rookie season.
Poston is not listed on the entry list for the PGA Championship this week at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, and he has until Friday to confirm entry in the Wyndham Championships scheduled Aug. 17-20 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.
He tied Matt Jones of Australia for 58th.
The tournament winner was Chris Stroud of Grover, Tx., who had an eagle to tie Greg Owen of England and Richy Werenski of Springfield, Mass.
Stroud gained his first PGA Tour victory – and a spot in the PGA Championship – by winning with a two-putt birdie in a playoff with Owen and Werenski.
