PGA TOUR: Poston delivers 7 birdies, moves up at Barracuda

RENO, Nev. – Posting a second round that featured seven birdies, J.T. Poston moved up in the standings on Friday at the Barracuda Championship.

Poston, who played prep golf at Hickory High and college golf at Western Carolina, moved from a tie for 80th after one round to a tie for 34th with seven other golfers headed into the third round.

That round is Saturday at the Montreux Golf and Country Club, and the final round is scheduled Sunday.

Poston has made the 19th cut in the 27 PGA Tour events he’s played in as a rookie.

On Friday, he birdied the first three holes and did likewise at holes No. 7 and No. 8, No. 10 and No. 14.

Poston had a 32 at the turn and ended up shooting a 68 that included a bogey at No. 5 and a double bogey (7) at No. 18.

The tournament uses Modified Stableford scoring and Poston has 14 points.

The leader, with 26 points, is Richy Werenski of Springfield, Mass., and he’s two strokes in front of Stuart Applesby of Australia.
