PGA TOUR: Poston birdies first 3 holes, shoots 69 to make cut

SILVIS, Ill. – J.T. Poston got off to a good start on Saturday, with a birdie at each of the first three holes, en route to a round of 69 as he made the cut at the John Deere Classic.

Poston, a golfing star at Hickory High and Western Carolina who is a PGA Tour rookie, is at 68-69-69—206 and tied with 12 other golfers for 44th place.

The final round of the tournament is Sunday, and Poston snapped a streak of having missed the cut four straight times and in five of his six previous outings.

He is playing his 24th PGA Tour event and has now made the cut 16 times as he approaches $600,000 in earning this season.

Poston hit the turn at 33 on Saturday after those three birdies. He had a bogey at No. 8 on the front nine.

On the back nine, Poston birdied No. 10 and No. 17 and had a bogey at No. 11 and 15 to close with a 36.

For the tournament, he has 14 birdies and has bogeyed seven holes.

Patrick Rodgers continues to lead the Deere Classic at 65-64-68—197. He’s 16-under par and up by two strokes on Daniel Berger and Scott Stallings.
