HUNTER HARVEY: Strikes out both batters he faces in win over Seattle

SEATTLE — Hunter Harvey faced two batters on Wednesday night — striking out both in the fourth inning — as part of the Washington Nationals’ 3-1 win over the Seattle Mariners.

The second of five pitchers used by the Nats (42-83), Harvey increased his season strikeout total to 23 in 20 2/3 innings.

He threw strikes on seven of 11 pitches and is now 0-0 with an ERA of 3.05 in 22 games. Career-wise, Harvey is now 1-2 with an ERA of 3.25 in 48 major league games (46 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings).

Washington did not play on Wednesday and set to begin a three-game home series against Cincinnati on Friday. After an off day Monday, the Oakland Athletics visit for games on Tuesday through Thursday.

Harvey is a former first-round draft pick, taken by the Baltimore Orioles. He spent a short time with the San Francisco Giants (did not pitch for them) and was picked up off waivers by the Nationals.
