BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal pitched a scoreless inning as he returned to the Mississippi Braves.

Deal, a left-hand reliever pitching for the first time in nearly three weeks after time on the disabled list, faced five batters in the Braves’ 10-1 road win over Birmingham (Ala.) on Wednesday night.

He gave up one hit, walked one and struck out two before a crowd of 2,262. He threw strikes on 14 of his 23 pitches.

The outcome left Deal as 3-2 this season with an ERA of 3.55 with 47 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings. He has appeared in 25 games.

Deal now has a career ERA of 3.18 with 327 strikeouts in 367 2/3 innings.

The series at Birmingham continues through the weekend.

The Braves did not release anything about the injury that sidelined Deal (he went on the DL list on Aug. 4) and he had not pitched since July 28.
