WASHINGTON, D.C. — Washington Nationals reliever Hunter Harvey battled six hitters on Tuesday night, striking out two of them, in a 10-6 home loss to the Oakland Athletics.
A hard-throwing right-hander from Bandys High, Harvey went 1 1/3 innings as the second of six pitchers used by Washington. He gave up a hit and walked one as his ERA lowered to 2.69.
Harvey threw strikes on 16 of his 27 pitches before a crowd of 26,321.
Washington (43-86) is at home again on Wednesday night against the Athletics.
Harvey is 0-0 through 25 games this season with 29 strikeouts in 24 innings. He is 1-2 as a major-leaguer in 51 games with 52 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings.
