BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Hayden Deal got touched for an earned run in his latest appearance for the Mississippi Braves.
Deal, a left-handed reliever after a standout career in high school at Bandys, pitched an inning in the Braves’ 5-0 loss at Birmingham (Ala.) on Saturday night.
He gave up a run, walked one and struck out one. He threw strikes on 11 of his 15 pitches, facing six batters before a crowd of 4,540.
Deal is 3-2 this season with an ERA of 3.66 in 26 games with 48 strikeouts in 51 2/3 innings.
He is 23-17 as a pro after 113 games in which he has an ERA of 3.20 with 328 strikeouts in 368 2/3 innings.
The Braves continue their current series against Tennessee on Wednesday night. Tennessee won 7-2 on Tuesday, and Deal did not pitch.
Mississippi (56-64) is in last place in the Southern League South Division (Double A) but still battling for a second-half title. The Braves are 27-24 in the second half and in second place, 5 1/2 games behind Montgomery (Ala.).
